A Day Cycling on The Great West Way

Cycling on The Great West Way

Have you ever driven from London to Bristol? Did you notice the wonderful sights along the way? Did you take time to step out of the car and wander around the countryside, soaking in the sites of interest and learning about England's heritage? The chances are you didn't. You had somewhere to be, a deadline to get there and you were going too fast to notice. Cycling on the Great West Way brings you up close to sights you may not have realised were there.

Cycle Wiltshire to See More

Imagine a different experience. Park up in Pewsey or jump off the train at Pewsey station and walk 5-10 minutes to Mark2 electric bikes, nestled in the High Street. There you'll find Harm, waiting with your Mark2 electric bike. Grab a coffee and plan your route, we have published cycle routes around Pewsey within our Blog. You can also discover 'must see' places on Visit Pewsey Vale's website. Our electric bikes have power when you need it, at the flick of a switch, the hills and steep slopes in around Pewsey are nothing to worry about.

Day Cycling Around Pewsey

Our guess is that after discovering Pewsey and its eclectic mix of independent shops, you'll want to see the White Horse on Milk Hill. The good news is, it is only 1.9 miles from the shop. Start the day at The Pewsey Heritage Centre, just along the High Street. Grab a coffee and cake from one of the Pewsey cafes before your cycle ride begins. Cross over the River Avon towards St John's Church then turn left/South out of the village on Swan road. Turn right onto Everleigh Road where you'll be able to see the horse and on your electric bike, get up close. Take a few selfies, take on some water then jump back in the saddle for the next stop.

Cycle Routes of Wiltshire

Retrace your steps by heading North on Everleigh Road, at the end turn left and left again, onto Salisbury Road, the A345 towards Manningford Bohume. After 3.9 miles, at the crossroads you will see the Woodbridge Inn on your right, a 1786 coaching inn which serves food. Next time you visit Pewsey (we know you will) it's worth considering the Woodbridge has a campsite, with a pub, perfect! Turn right at the pub following the path of the River Avon towards North Newnton and Hilcott, after 1.9 miles at the crossroads you'll see Henge Honey Ltd, here you can pick up a tasty jar of wildflower honey. Head right towards Woodborough and on to Wilsford Road.

Cycling - Easy on an Electric Bike

Turn right again towards Bottesford.  0.7 Miles from Henge Honey, you'll find The Seven Stars Inn, a five star 17th Century coaching inn serving food and fine ales. The next leg is 3.7 miles, easy on an eBike. Turn left out of the pub (assuming you went in), when you reach the end go left and quickly right. Pass the Whitehall garden centre on your left (call in for a browse) and go left at the end. Follow the road round to the right and keep going, cross over Hare St at the crossroad into Woodborough Road heading towards Pewsey. At the end turn right onto Wilcott Road. You will pass The Crown Inn on the left (or go in if this is a pub crawl cycle ride). At the end turn left onto Marlborough Road, follow the road for a few minutes to watch the boats idling by at Pewsey Wharf.  Watch the wildlife by the river: moorhens, mallards, mute swans, coots and the odd kingfisher can all be seen in the area. The Waterfront bar & bistro is here for you to enjoy a drink by the river.

Head back into Pewsey the way you came for one mile then cycle to the shop where you can tell Harm how fabulous Mark2 electric bikes are! We can't wait to meet you.
