How long should an electric bike last?

Answering your FAQs: How long should an electric bike last?

High quality electric bikes typically sell for between £1500 and £2500 which, especially if you’re considering purchasing your very first eBike and/or you’re used to riding manual bikes, can seem particularly expensive. However, what if we told you that it could average out at a cost of just £100 - £200 per year across the eBike’s lifetime…? Here, we’ll answer the question: how long should an eBike last?

How long should an electric bike last?

A well-maintained electric bike can last up to 10 years. Of course, this number is an average and can be higher or lower depending on things like:

  • How often you ride your eBike and how far
  • The quality of the manufacturing and parts used
  • The type of eBike you have

The key here, though, is the phrase ‘well-maintained’; proper care, maintenance, and servicing can easily prolong the life of your electric bike.

So, what can you do to achieve this proper care & maintenance?

eBike care & maintenance tips

eBike servicing: having your eBike serviced approximately once a year by a professional is an extremely effective way to ensure your eBike remains in good ‘health’; servicing will help to identify issues and problems early on, and keep your eBike safe & secure.

eBike repair: similar to eBike servicing, having your eBike repaired as soon as something breaks or seemingly threatens to break is going to help you keep your eBike in good ‘health’ (good working order!), as tending to broken parts early on ensures minimal damage is done.

eBike battery care: there are many things you can do to take care of your eBike battery, such as:

  • Store the battery around 20°C
  • Store the battery somewhere dry
  • Store the battery fully charged and charge at least once a month
  • Don’t charge your battery if its temperature is below freezing. The optimal temperature for charging is 20°C

In short, with proper care & maintenance, your eBike can last upwards of 10 years.

However, buying a new eBike is so much more than simply buying a new eBike, it’s an investment in your health & fitness, and your sense of adventure; an investment in family holidays and quality time with friends & family.
